Industry Sponsored Nurses Best Practice
Caroline Geraghty, Health Management Services Director at Innovex, reports how a consensus meeting of healthcare stakeholders has sought to find a way forward, so that partnerships based on mutual respect and trust become the future foundation for successful industry-sponsored nurse programmes.
Over the past year, a strategic push has been underway to encourage closer joint working between pharma and the NHS. A range of documents, policies, resources and toolkits has been developed to create fertile ground for collaboration and support for successful partnerships.
Working within this framework, Innovex, as the leading provider of commercial solutions to the healthcare industry, brought together key stakeholders at a consensus meeting to examine more closely the issues facing industry-sponsored nurses (ISNs) and the opportunities for forging partnerships that deliver improved outcomes and patient care.
Delegates included representatives from the NHS, the pharmaceutical industry, patient advocacy groups and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN). With high-level speakers, including Baroness Julia Cumberlege representing the NHS, Sue Thomas and Lynn Young for the RCN and GSK’s Medical Director Dr Stuart Dollow, and all perspectives were equally presented allowing for open and inclusive debates.
